                               News

                                     Hever castle

The parking at Hever castle at this time of year is the top section only, we have put bollards and tape up to stop anybody going further down, but despite this a member has moved the tape and bollards out of the way and taken his car/van down to the bottom and got him self stuck, he then churned up most of the bottom section getting him self out.  This member if we find him will be asked to pay for the damaged he caused, or be removed from the club it is very clear where you park at Hever.

When members do damage to property that we rent, we have to rectify and pay for it, please do not go past the taped section in winter.

Click picture to see both of his fish that day.

Conner Thorpe one of our younger members sent a picture to sky sports for this Bream he caught and came second, in the young angler of the month competition, well done Connor I think the adults have some catching up to do .

Its good to see the younger members fishing places like Hever the fishing is so much more rewarding.

More winter fish pics please we love them.

                                   Nursery Fields

We have asked people to not put skimmers or bream into keep nets at Nursery Fields, this is just a safe guard.  We have just endured some nasty weather this year and we will take as many precautions we seem fit to ensure our fishery's remain in good working order.

                                     Recent weather

We just endured  one of the worst winters in recent years both Nursery and Chittenden were both frozen over.

The committee members kept a close eye on our waters, both waters done very well over the winter months during  that nasty white stuff and we suffered no major fish loses, when and if problems occur our bailiffs and members are among the best and we would like to thank all those that kept their eyes on the waters .

EA warn of non native plants

The EA have warned us of non native plants that they are looking to eradicate, and would like to be informed if they are seen anywhere.  Below are some pictures.

                                 Annual General Meeting

As normal the Annual General Meeting will be held at the Golf Club in Edenbridge on the 20th of March at 8pm so be there around 7.30, attendance is usually around 60 out of 850 and the room can hold about 200, so it would be nice to see a few new faces if you could spare a couple of hours. There is a chance in Any Other Business for any member to raise anything they like, be it a moan, grumble or ask a question, plus there is a very good raffle with a selection of tackle prizes.

                                                 Warning

It has come to our attention that somebody has put at least one double figure pike into Nursery Fields. This person or persons must be stopped, the introduction of pike as the top predator will cause long term damage to the fisheries development. The society will not tolerate this mindless action and will be investigating this very thoroughly. If caught the member/members will be dealt with most severely. The matter will also be brought to the attention of the Environment Agency who are working with the club to improve the fishery at Nursery Fields.  Criminal prosecutions can be brought by the Environment Agency on individuals if they are caught.

                                         The Web Site

The look and style of the web site will be changing over the next few months and we apologize that it has not been updated lately, this is now changing and there will be current and up to date information on the site in the future.

We plan to have some videos of some of our own well known club anglers demonstrating their well practiced techniques .

                                           work Work

We have been very busy this year on a number of our fisheries to maintain and improve them.

Our first port of call this year was early spring, and we went to Christmas mill to remove a very large oak tree that had fallen into the water, this was particularly hard work as the tree had managed to sink one side of itself into the silty bottom, after much huffing and puffing along with three evenings work, we managed to liberate it from the water.

Feeling victorious and upbeat for the next two months, in the evenings we spent clearing and improving the fishery at penshurst, we improved and renewed one or two old swims and cleared the pathway from the gate at the bottom.

A very large elm tree during the winter had decided it had enough and toppled over blocking the path.  This is a water that needs alot of love and attention so we will be back early next year to continue the work.

We also paid a visit to both Nursery and Chittenden on mass, repairing bridges/ clearing islands and generally tidying up .

Many hands make light work and we would like to thank everybody that came to help .

Next year we will return.  We normally have work parties on Tuesday nights and if you would like to help please contact the site in April next year.

                                             Parking

With the exception of Chittenden and Nursery Fields the car parks we have,  are predominantly grass, so with the onset of winter please be cautious especially after prolonged spells of rain,as the surface will quickly turn to mud and you will easily get stuck, or a the very least churn up the ground and leave ruts for somebody else to fall.

                                           Hop Farm

Without our knowledge the Hop Farm Management have installed a barrier of  rocks/bricks to divide off the fields. Access is still possible to the left hand end of the fishery via a track that leads off to the left just prior to the start of the rocks in the wooded section, this takes you round the side into the next field and down to the river.

Protect Our Waters From Deadly Viruses

Every year a number of waters are devastated by huge losses of stock to viruses such as SVC and KHV, and already it appears that there are problems at some fairly local fisheries. Please help us keep our stocks healthy, by using net dips where requested, just as importantly at waters, other than our own.

One of the most effective ways to protect against transfer of these viruses is to thoroughly dry your nets between fishing trips. If you dry your nets by hanging them out, as you would your clothing after washing, the ultra violet radiation  from the sun will kill the majority of likely threats.

These simple precautions are no great inconvenience, so please help us in this matter.
