New River Venue
The Society have successfully negotiated for a stretch of fishing on the River Medway At Beltring.
This provides in excess of 2000 metres of single bank fishing on the south bank, with good access and parking. There are two weirs within this section, and the river is navigable, so
there will be some boat traffic in the better weather. During recent tests the upstream areas have fished the best, and the river appears to support a good head of Bream, and Roach, plus Pike and Tench.
Directions: On entering The Hop Farm car park turn hard left and follow the track out of the car park, carry on along this track until you see a set of blue gates on the left, our
combination lock is on these gates. Once through the gates follow the track, you will pass a WWII tank and a short section of woodland. The track finishes at the edge of a large field, the river is on the
opposite side, if the ground conditions allow, you may drive across this field and park by the river. The fishing is from just below the large weir pool, upstream for over 2000 metres. BE AWARE! There is no
access to the Hop Farm itself from this anglers entrance. Anyone caught entering The Hop Farm from this entrance, will be expelled from the Society, and the Society may lose the fishing. If you wish to visit The Hop
Farm, you must do so via the normal entrance and pay the entrance fee.

Coach Trips
The Committee are investigating the demand and interest in having some coach trips to venues that offer something a little different in the way of fishing. At present it is problematic to
try and put a cost to the trips as we do not know of the numbers interested or length of journey. So if you are interested and /or have some ideas to put forward, please contact the web site by e-mail.

The Society Has A New Water
We have a new water, Broxham Pond. It's approx a 1 acre pond containing Carp,Tench Roach &
Perch it is in Edenbridge, if you travel out of Edenbridge on the Four Elms road you pass Swan Lane on your left, then you pass through the national speed limit sign on the long straight. almost directly after the
sign there is a gate way on the right with a strictly private sign on it, it has one of our pad locks on it, drive through the gate, along the right hand side of the field, through the gap in the hedge, keep the
hedge on your left hand side and park at the top of the field. The fishery is quite weedy and a weed rake would be a good idea.

Chittenden Carp
The first match of the 07/08 season at this venue produced approximately 1800 lbs of Carp, which was the ideal situation to assess there condition. One thing that was obvious was the
amount of fish with damage to their mouths.
Some of the fish had suffered cuts or slits, which looked like damage caused by the use braid hook lengths. Unsheathed braid acts like a saw causing nasty wounds when under tension, and
is not a good hook length material to use.
Also fishing with heavy tackle, whatever type of hook link material is used, and putting too much pressure on the hook hold can cause the hook to rip the mouth.
Please use care whilst playing or handling fish, and make sure the tackle you use is suitable, as it would be a shame to have to introduce rules to protect our sport, just because of the
actions of a few.

Surface Baits
There have been a few reports of wildfowl being hooked by anglers using surface baits with less care than is necessary.
Be aware that your bait is equally attractive to ducks and geese, as it is to fish. You need to be vigilant at all times and be able to move your bait quickly
to avoid the problem, also watch out for seagulls as they will dive and take a floating bait if they spot it.

Protect Our Waters From Deadly Viruses
Every year a number of waters are devastated by huge losses of stock to viruses such as SVC and KHV, and already it appears that there are problems at some fairly local fisheries. Please
help us keep our stocks healthy, by using net dips where requested, just as importantly at waters, other than our own.
One of the most effective ways to protect against transfer of these viruses is to thoroughly dry your nets between fishing trips. If you dry your nets by hanging them out, as you would
your clothing after washing, the ultra violet radiation from the sun will kill the majority of likely threats.
These simple precautions are no great inconvenience, so please help us in this matter.
