Match Review 2nd November 2008 Chittenden

A cold and breezy day greeted the competitors for this silver fish match, but at least there was no overnight frost.

Doug Scotland on peg 24 fished pole and maggot for 10 lbs 5 ozs and the win.
Closely behind in second place was Mike Green on Peg 35 With 10 lbs 2 ozs of pole caught skimmers and Roach, with Neil Whittaker just one ounce behind in third place with 10 lbs 1 ozs taken on pole and maggot from Peg 33.

Although the weights were lower than expected, the results were so close that just a couple of fish separated the top three and in spite of the lower water temperature, most anglers suffered from Carp problems.

Match Review 9th November 2008 Hever

The strong winds and heavy showers didn't cause John Dourley too many problems, as he compiled a winning weight of Bream from his peg in the middle of the second bay on feeder with worm and caster hook bait. By the final whistle John was able to take 68 lbs 8 ozs of Bream to the scales for a comfortable win.
Mick Ashby swapped between feeder and pole to weigh 43 lbs 2 ozs of Bream from his peg, at the upstream end of the second bay, for second place.
Alan Jopling fished worm and maggot on the feeder for 18 lbs 6 ozs and third place.

Great to see that the second bay can still throw up the odd good weight of Bream, as it will mean that the draw becomes less important.

Match Review 16th November 2008 Somerden Farm

A cold drizzly day made things uncomfortable for the anglers contesting this match.

Richard Leppard found three Chub and some small fish weighing
8 lbs 4 ozs for the win.

Ken Staton in the downstream field, weighed 7 lbs 8 ozs of small fish for second place.

Mike Green took one Chub and some small fish to the scales to record 6 lbs 2 ozs and third place.

Match Review 23rd November 2008 Wittersham

A very cold, wet and windy morning greeted the 11 anglers that contested this match, and although the weather was brighter in the afternoon, the recent drop in temperatures took its toll on the fishing.

Neill Whittaker fished the pole for a net of small fish weighing 2 lbs 11 ozs and the win.

Alan Davis also fished the pole for 2 lbs 8 ozs of small fish and second place.

Richard Leppard had 2 lbs 3 ozs of small fish for third place.

This colder weather is starting to remind me of the pleasures of winter fishing, back in the seventies and eighties, something I had hoped not to experience again.

Match Preview 30th November 2008 Penshurst

This venue should produce even in the cold, if there is some flow and colour.

Would think that a double figure weight should guarantee success, unless the necessary flow and colour coincides with much milder conditions.
